There's several pics and data on the wreck in the first volume of "The RGS story" from Sundance. (altho they got the date wrong and had to correct it in a later volume)

As to run-away wrecks on the D&RG/RGS, yeah they happened every so often but not not very frequently after about 1910 or so. (westinghouse came out with a better valve for air brakes about then) And of course they were *way* more freqent in straight-air days (pre '03)
