Re: Film versus digital

Brett: The test were done with a Canon EOS1DsMkII with an almost 17 MP sensor, and a Canon EOS-1V, Cannon's top of the line film camera.
The lens was an "L" series lens that tested very well on an MTF lens test. (Modulation Transfer Function).
The film used was a very high resolution color transparency film (tabular grain) and a comparison was done.
The blow ups were published I think by Popular Photography magazine.
The digital Canon won, by a good margin.
I have simulated the same test with my Canon EOS-5D which is only 12.8 megapixel, compared with T-Max slowest, finest grain film. I'm personally convinced that digital is here to stay.
I do think, however, there is still a place for film, for archival protection, and to use as material for taking measurements, as the film image is blown up to take measurements, and nothing beats an RC paper print, with no shrinkage, for making measurements of a building or a locomotive. Yes, although switching to digital, I still have an extensive 'wet' darkroom. Good shooting. "Bo"
