Excerpt from Larry Peterson’s talk about the misuse of the C&TSRR by the “Friends of the Railroad”.
One more minor point---We have filed a compliant against the Friends organization with the Internal Revenue Service for abusing their 501 tax exempt status. We contend that the Friends have, with deliberate intent, violated the exemption in many ways since the organizations inception in the late 80’s. And in an unusual move, we have asked that the leadership be held civil and criminally responsible, and that the individual members be held financially liable for all past taxes, assessments, and penalties due the government .
Larry is a senior CPA with a major accounting firm here in the Denver area. He has joined the group helping to put a ballot initiative on Colorado’s November, 2007 election ballot and is a specialist in financial planning for religious organizations and other non-profits.
