Many visitors here are probably familiar with my Narrow Gauge Memories websites with pix of the DRGW ng. in the 1960's. I have spent the rainy months this year updating the websites with a few new picutres, and increasing the size of the old ones. I just finished the DRGW part of Volume III, the final one, and have added a bunch of new pictures of Durango, the Farmington branch, and the last train I chased in May 1968. Some C&TS and D&S pictures will be eventually added, but the grass is green and the sun has come out so it is time to get away from the computer. Plus my guess is the DRGW pix are of most interest to folks here. Below is a link to Volume III, the one that has changed the most, as well as the usual "teaser" picture.
The picture is the first train of 1968, the last year. The two 470's had recieved winter work in the Alamosa shops, and had to be ferried to Durango for the beginning of the Silverton season. So they arranged a short pipe train. The operation was unusual in the use of the 470's, the small train that allowed them to doublehead up the east side of Cumbres (rather than the usual mid-train helper arrangement), and they ran through to Durango in a singe (long) day.
