Today I finished the link support assembly and crosshead guides which was the construction step from the Jan/Feb 2015 issue of Live Steam. This one took longer than anticipated due to my shop AC taking a dive and the very warm summer we had here in the valley of the sun. With the shop cooling back up and running I was finally able to complete this portion of the project. The next step will be the pistons and crossheads.
It sure has been a long summer without a trip up to see some steam in action but I still have memories from the rotary trip. Hopefully I will be able to see the prototype for this build again next year.
All of the details are here if you would like to take a look.
K27 Link Support Assembly
This shot of 463 shows the link support assembly below the running boards and the crosshead guides running between them and the cylinders.
This is the link support assembly before mounting it to the frame and was fabricated from 22 individual pieces. The width over this assembly is about 10 1/4".
This shot is the completed link support assembly mounted on the frame and the crosshead guide bars running from the assembly over to the cylinders. The crosshead guide bars are about 5" in length.
