After posting the first in this series, I figured out that the last photo I posted of the Converse Basin Sawmill was reversed in Johnston's book. Here's the way it should appear:
When I visited Converse Basin I didn't seem to be able to line up the photos very well. Flipping this photo makes things align much better. I'll have to go back next year and take some more then and now photos..
Converse Basin has an incredible number of stumps:
This one was caught in a fire sometime in the past.
This one is the largest stump in the Converse Basin meadow. It stands about 11 feet tall and about 20 feet across!
I think this stump appears at the middle right hand side of the sawmill photo above...
We next decided to hike to see the Boole tree which is the only tree the loggers left standing.
Hiking up the 1 mile trail towards it we began to see remnants of a skid road:
The skid road is the "gully" cutting diagonally through the picture.
At the top of the ridge was another large stump here with Naomi on it for comparison:
