Since this has shifted to animal stories I am linking a video preview of our Wildlife show. We got several black bears, including some in Jasper, with the "Canadian" in the background. Note the Grizzly shot I mentioned previously. This was shot out the passenger side window of the conversion van. Kathi was at the wheel with the motor running!!! I got about 2 minutes of raw footage which I was pleased with.
The rest of the bear story was that we were driving(I was driving, while the girls were asleep), between Prince George and Jasper, when I noticed the bear on the other side of the 2 lane highway. I stopped, woke the girls, and had Kathi take the wheel. Armed with my Betacam SP camera we slowly came up along the shoulder even with the bear and I got some shots on video. Kathi kept saying "you got enough, lets go". So finally we left turned around and started toward Jasper. We noticed a pick-up truck that said "Game Warden" about 200 yards from where we had just been, so I did another u-turn and pulled up to the pick-up. There were 2 guys and a hound in the back of the truck. I asked what they were doing, and the reply was "We are looking for a bear. There have been several reports by motorists of a huge Grizzly bear aggressively pounding the pavement and generally acting angry". So I said...."You mean that bear---pointing ahead at the top of the bear seen in the dandelions." The warden said...."You stay here it can be dangerous". I replied, "We already got our shots and we are headed out anyway". The hound was let out and chased the bear off toward the woods and he was gone. This was not In Jasper Park, and it was the only. Grizzly I have ever seen up there. Saw several black bears though.

PS In 1992 in Canada we saw a wolf along the Trans-Canada Highway between Field and Golden (Kicking Horse Canyon). This thing was big and he went flying across the road just ahead of us. Makes you not want to do much hiking up there!!!
