I am not a snake guy, and will go out of my way to miss them. I saw some snakes in the Chama yard one year (1993 I think) and someone said they were harmless. Not worried about them so much as those ones with rattles. I see black snakes in the yard about once a year, but I live in a wooded area. I once asked a Chama mechanic if there were any snakes on Cumbres, and they agreed there were none. Thats why I am surprised they were at Cresco. Now Bears, I have not seen in Colorado, but have in Canada. I got video of a Grizzly only about 15 feet away. Very lucky to get the shot without being attacked. Hey, you gotta work for your shots, and then they are more special, right!
Wayne, Roger showed a slide or video a few years ago of a huge brown bear that came down off the highway and crossed the tracks down around the Cresco Siding, just west of the tank. That made me think!!! A year or so ago my brother hiked to Tanglefoot with his teenage daughter. They got the Engineer School train, followed by the regular Westbound. They had some sort of Bear Repellant but did not see anything. Wildlife is always something to think about, especially bears and mountain lions. Hope I never see either unless I am in the car, or train.
Oh once Earl told me he saw a rattle snake attack the running gear of a moving train on the east. end of the line!!! I know, I know we are whimps compared to you guys in Australia. Steve Irwin, Crocodile Dundee and company, roite!!
