Double D-wood 3.28.10

Today and yesterday I got a couple pictures of what is left of the #71 and #72 which you probably won't find anywhere, since the parts are out in the woods.

Out in front of the shop you can see the 71's cab and the 72's drivers and pony and trailing wheels.

Boiler and front end of the 71. From what I understand, the boiler was surveyed within the last couple of years and the flues were cut out of it (along with the insulation removed?). Next to the engine out of view are the domes and the stack and other random chunks of the locomotive. This are is planned to be covered soon, so the 71 will be stored indoors, and perhaps get a slight bit closer to operation.
Apparently a top hatted gentleman left his hat in the smokebox as well.

Drivers on the engineers side of 71.

Superheaters and the rods off the 72 out in the weeds on 3.27.10.

The 72's frame and a tender frame out in the woods in storage...

Dollywood Express 3.28.10

Video from operations today... in one of the last shots, the cylinder relief valve was stuck open which would explain all the steam.

Some Durango & Silverton style chain chocks.
