IIRC, "Chile" is a country in South America, and "Chili" is – theoretically, at least – a food.
"Mild" Chili, as served by Vera Alcon in Kelly's Cafe, Chama N.M., during the late 1960's and early 1970's –
and presumably enjoyed in either it's original or enhanced version in copious quantities by the principal sub-
ject of this thread – required simultaneous co-consumption of three or more cold beers to prevent ignition of
his – or anyone else's – interior.
Rumor has it that the demise of Kelly's was due to Vera spilling some of her regular ("mild") chili on the con-
crete floor in the kitchen of said establishment, which did subsequently catch fire and nearly engulf an entire
block of stores and shops
. . .
Which brings me to the point of this post — Isn't John Pritchard's nickname 'Chil
i' John, and not 'Chil
e' John?
