Note 'chute' under outhouse at far right of photo - presumably no-one rode on these 'excursion cars' during photo-runbys ...    


This isn't the photo that I remembered from long ago - nor is Turner's slim but hard-cover volume the same small paperback purchased at The Chinook Bookstore in Colorado Springs during my freshman year at General Palmer's Colorado College.  Per page 192 of Mal Ferrel's © 1982 'Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge', "On October 7-8, 1948 the Railway & Locomotive Histörical Society sponsored a two-day excursion over the road ...  Due to a misunderstanding by the Owenyo carmen, outhouses were installed on [all] five 'excursion cars', rather than the single car which was to have sported 'johns'." **  The center photo on page 193 is not the one I remember seeing years before, either.

So ... Mike and Ed - et al - IMHO it is clear from the above evidence that it would constitute a serious omission of catastrophic proportions should the sequel to 'The Saga of Burning Switch' not include an incident involving a runaway "Chic Sales" car similar to the above - and the horrendous consequences of it's derailment and subsequent crashing into Madame Georgiana Condi-Google-Eyes' "Recreation Hall for Senior Curmudgeons" in the remote mountain village of your choice ... ***
