I'm not nearly as big a fan of the RGS as I am the D&RGW, but here's what I know.
It was going down hill from Dallas Divide, when it became a runaway and derailed at Peak. Here's some pics from the Denver Public Library.
Ocording to the DPL records These photos were taken By Otto C. Perry, June 19, 1944, but it also states the wreck took place in November 1943. Maybe someone here can answer why it took so long to clean up, and other details I may have forgoten or misinterpeted.
