True there is no pleasing everyone on videos, sounds, etc. Obviously if we had on film sound there would be no debate about music. I'm just happy to see the footage, and everything else is gravy.
I'd be interested in other films both narrow gauge and standard. There is some urgency in producing this old stuff since the films get worse, and there are fewer means to transfer this old technology. Also many of the potential buyers for this old footage are no longer with us, and we need to preserve the footage, just like old equipment, before it gets lost forever!
I had a customer 10 years ago who lived along the UP, and once I mentioned him to Steve Lee. Steve told me the guy once had mountains of great 16mm Union Pacific Steam, but that it was all lost in a house flood! His name was Art Stensvaad.
This is why I am getting my dads old stuff done now. He is gone, the films are aging,I am not getting any younger, and nobody is viewing the stuff that is nearly 40-50 years old now. Its not professional quality, but then you can't go out and shoot it today, unless its a photo freight recreation :}.
When we have worked with 16mm we pay the extra to have it transfered on a Rank Cintel for the best quality. Our home movies on 8mm are not in that realm! I also have some 16mm from early 60's, mostly on the Silverton, but thats another issue. There is some sound for that, and I may consider a NG CD with this stuff some day(some freight also).
