1744 will be kept in Alamosa for the winter. As our shop will not be available to occupy until after the first of the year, we are looking at other temporary housing so work can be done on 1744.

If you are referring to 1744's somewhat rusty nose, That silver paint (we use the hight temp stuff) lasts about 2 weeks before it starts peeling off. If it rains on it, it peels off the next day. Look at the Saturday pic at Fir and compare it to the shot at La Veta the next day - a noticiable difference.

Another thing to know: Locomotives that work hard for a living -whether coal or oil burning - get grubby real fast.
