Nope, we kept 'em...at least I did, along with my own No.4 coal scoop.
We always carried our own scoop and put the one already on the engine up over the boilerhead for a spare "just in case". The draft thru the firedoor when the engine was working hard was considerable and you didn't want to "lose" a scoop or the end off it in the fire. Some of the ones on the engines weren't in the best of shape either....and without a good scoop you were soon dead for steam.
I intended to keep those items as mementos of my engine service, but they escaped me somewhere along the way during the last 44 years....Don't know where the bag went, the coal shovel was relegated to shoveling snow at home and was probably lost during a move somewhere after I left...I don't know what happened to it.
