You're right, Ed -

SEVERAL decades ago*, en route in January from sunny southern California back to college in Colorado Springs (where 'Doc' Stabler was a much-liked professor), a friend and I stopped by the D&RGW yard one evening to warm up. (His car, an old Chevy, had no heater!) We spent about an hour sitting in the cab of a simmering K-36 before continuing on our way ...

Of course one can no longer just wander into a railroad yard these days and climb up on an unwatched locomotive - much less a steamer with a glowing fire. Best to check out the old Triple-A Tourist Guide and have a warm spot reserved in advance (once we find out when #315 is going to run).
