Re: Narrow Gauge and Steam Locomotives

October 14, 2007 08:57AM
When it comes to narrow gauge, I don't "only" think of Rio Grande, although it certainly tops the list. There are others on the list, and other narrow "gauges" to think about besides 3 foot.

However...
When it comes to Rio Grande Narrow Gauge, Steam Locomotives top the list, round out the list and close the list.

Dismals may have played a guest appearance, and may be useful in the present day for yard switching and m-o-w chores, but they most certainly do not, on their best day, create the drama of a K-27 or -28 -36 -37, or now a C-18, in action.

Not even at gunpoint would I consider standing on the hillside at Elk Park or Tanglefoot Curve to watch a lash-up of dismal junk clunking and growling up the track. This may someday be a normal thing, but hopefully not til I'm long gone.
