It rivals my all-time favorite issue - April, 1956 - which not only had Dr. Phil Hastings' great article on Cumbres Pass, "Into the Freezing Darkness", but also a beautiful two-page spread of one of S.P.'s last three-engine freights (4-8-8-2's, that is) and a fascinating piece on C&O's coal-mine operations of the era, featuring a relatively new 2-6-6-2, if I remember correctly.
