I understand that - that is what CN did in Newfoundland during the last years of narrow gauge operations. Rather than transloading freight from standard to narrow gauge cars, they switched the trucks at Port aux Basques on the cars arriving and leaving.

If that is what was done on the Rio Grande, why were separate standard gauge trucks kept along with the specific cars I listed, as they were the only ones on the roster noted as having standard and narrow gauge trucks? If any old truck could be rolled in or out from under a car, what made these specific cars so special?
