I appolgize (don't do it enough - can't even spell it)... I am very passionate about railroads too. Heck, I am SURE we all are here because why else would we rant and rave about the Loop?
I too love the ex-F&CC locomotives, especially #20. I have pieces of her miniature wanna-be in my barn that I would love to work on someday.
I am not sure how the DRHS and city have their arrangement set up but I view the DRHS as the stewards of the locomotive and so they know what is best and the city should be listening and it sure sounds like it. When I went to college there, my advisor was the mayor. Never did discuss politics, just my college career... Loved that small town mentality. I sure hope they don't lose it and when I was there this past summer, I was surprised how much the city has grown. I hope they don't grow too far, too fast and lose their roots. But that's politics and not railroads. Or is it demographics?
Durango has been VERY good about the railroad and I am sure they are well intentioned and will make the right decision.
If the DRHS is successful at finding a place the locomotive can be kept, especially where it can be viewed yet easy to maintain, I'll do what I can to send some money out there, just like I will do for the #20. I'll do what I can but my money is tight. Doesn't help when I have to spend $1500 on a henhouse for my wife's stupid feather babies. But it is worth it if they stay off the tracks. And out of my azelas.
You know. In the long run, I think I am really incorrect. If the 315 will have it's own home, that pavilion being built could become a picnic shelter. Since it is not meant to be the perminant home - I guess. If the plans are to find a new home, why not?
Again, sorry for being so grumpy. I get this way after spending a month working round the clock at work and home... Thank goodness I'm taking some time off and going camping.
