Film is a new technology designed to avoid the chronic and difficult problem of dust on your sensor. The new approach involves a chemical sensor that is changed for each image, totally avoiding the need to try to clean your sensor. Like many technologies, there are trade-offs. You don't get the immediate feed back, but in return for that you don't have to worry about voiding your warranty by trying to clean an electonic sensor. Progress marches on.
