Fred,

Many of the Propane heaters are remote controlled and the dispatchers can turn them on from (In our case) Omaha.

I always found it interesting that Omaha was prescient enough to know what the weather is like at Dale Junction, Rock River or Medicine Bow. (No, it's not that exotic they have to ask the crews).
