OK, I know with all of the Loop discussions that this is dangerous, but I hope this'll be taken in the spirit it's presented - which is purely for enjoyment and in remembrance of a terrific day. Please note that I have nothing but admiration for all of the folks of GTL Inc., who gave me and my family nothing but first class service going all the way back to the days of the Ashby's Central City operation. I miss 'em, and the nearly flawless service they provided year in and year out, and I fervently wish that things were as they once were.
That said, towards the end of the 2006 season, a small handful of us were treated by Steve Torrico and his crew to a late afternoon with C&S 9 and some freight equipment. For the few of us who got to experience this, it was a day to remember, and one I'll always be grateful to Steve for hosting. I'm only sorry that there couldn't have been more of these.
I'm posting this, not because of the recent discussions (in fact, it's really in spite of them and in the hope that it won't degrade into, well...), but because I've (finally!) been prepping some images for a minor update of my website, got to looking at some of the stuff from that day once again and wanted to share.
Here's #9 on the high bridge, late that afternoon - click on the thumbnail for a larger version:
