I understand that #8 was at Bakersfield for shopping when the diesel arrived. It was then buttoned up and given to the State of Nevada.
Independence is about 4 to 5 hours hard drive south of Reno down highway 395. Carson City with the Nevada State RR Museum is only 30 miles south of Reno. Anyone getting into Owens Valley should visit both the exhibit at Laws (6 miles north-east of Bishop) and the Eastern California Museum in Independence (about 3 blocks west of the county court house) besides seeing #18 located at the roadside park on the north side of Independence.
