Some may not consider this to be part of the narrow gauge scene, but remember that they were designed to do a specific job. A job which they are still doing. Park trains have been around almost as long as "regular" narrow gauge. If you look at lot of the narrow gauge operations today what are they? They are a train ride pure and simple. They take people from point "A" and bring them back to point "A". Besides, there is a fair amount of old narrow gauge equipment in park service today that may have met the scrappers touch otherwise.
