As to the kids in the photo, I seem to remember that the local schoolteacher in Sapinero, realizing the historic significance of the event (one of the very few at the time), took her students down to the track to watch the last train from Gunnison gather up cars at Sapinero and whistle off for the last time. Now it is all gone--railroad, School, and the town of Sapinero. The site is beneath the waters of Blue Mesa Reservoir.
