I don't think anyone has yet mentioned that the
"Clear Creek Courant" website has a new article posted:
Clear Creek Courant: Georgetown Loop Out of Service.
The article quotes Tom Hill, marketing director for the Loop, who explains why the Loop is down.
The author concludes with these two paragraphs:
Earlier this year, the Loop failed to open for the Memorial Day weekend because of maintenance issues. Last year, the Loop shut down seven times, and all three trains broke down at times throughout the season, leaving tourists without rail for 12 days.
Still, in 2006 the train, a driving force of summer tourism, served 73,000 passengers, a 12 percent increase from the previous year.
Now, compare the Courant's 8/10/2007 article to what the Denver Post printed about the Loop on 8/11/2007, a day later, in their article
Denver Post: One Tank Trips. That article includes these sentences:
Worth the drive: The beloved Georgetown Loop Railroad is a no-brainer (100 Loop Drive, 888-456-6777, georgetownlooprr.com.), a narrow-gauge steam locomotive that takes you on a 6-mile- round-trip journey, with open-car options ... You'll have enough gas left over to take on the 22-mile loop of Guanella Pass , a gorgeous Scenic Byway that hits 11,600 feet at the top and yields views of Mount Bierstadt and Grays Peak. Get out at Georgetown Lake to do a little fishing, or go to Pavilion Point, a 2-mile-out-and-back hiking trail along an old railroad bed. Access it 1.2 miles down Waldorf Junction (Forest Service Road 248) off Guanella Pass Road.
[sarcasm] Hopefully nobody takes weekend trip suggestions from the Post! [/sarcasm] Is the "old railroad bed" the article mentions part of the Argentine Central?
