It's not the original route, but there is a project underway to put rails from the Laws Railroad Museum towards Bishop. Inyo County has a TEA grant and has done the Calif. Environmental Assessment and will be doing the Federal EA shortly. The route follows the 1911 "Red Apple Line" ROW that was to run from Bishop to Laws(see Myrick's book). It will be NG. Just a guess, but I would think 5+ years before any track on the ground. Initially, it will probably use the DVRR 5 motorcar.
