More details... We had left Osier on time for
Antonito. Guess there had been a slow order at
that bad spor where they have had a lot of mud
and sliding this year. Felt a little bump coming
over it. On the way back, I was standing on the
platform of the first coast (placed there as a
handicapped coach, followed by the parlor car and
the rest of the train.) We had slowed down but
the engine and tender rolled 20-25 degrees to the left and then righted itself. Yhe crew later said they thought it was going over. Then the coach I was on left the rails and bumped along the ties. The train was in a radio dead spot.
There was some talk of a rescue train coming up
from Chama, but the crew got out the frogs and
rereailed the coach. The passengers were asked
to go forward or rearward out of the parlor car
as the train was pulled slowly over the bad spot.
I was concerned the parlor car might roll but
it didn't.
Again we were only an hour and a half late but
nobody minded. I seem to remember a detrailment
some years ago when they were up there until
midnight or so.
