GE did build two or three 70 ton units with 6 axles on articulated trucks for US Potash's operation near Carlsbad, NM. These units were scrapped for parts by BR&L years ago.
1203 is a one of a kind 6 axle unit built by Porter in 1947. It has been erroneously reported that this unit was originally supposed to have been started for Pakistan or it is an A-1-A trucked unit. It is a six axle six motored unit. File info shows that Porter proposed this unit or a slightly smaller centercab to USG. Drawing dates and the proposal do not suggest anything but that this unit was special built for USG.
The GE 70 tons and the 1203 are equipped with Cooper-Bessemer FWL6T six cylinder in-line turbocharged engines. GE later bought the CB design, the C-B FVL-16 becoming the GE FDL-16. I think GE's new GEVO diesel engines still carry over a few of the C-B basic design concepts.
