Rick, it was hard for me to be sad for Bob, as I felt he lived a very full and rewarding life, and left such a great legacy for future generations. His influence on us personally was large. Personally he was very encouraging of my art and told me I had a better future there than I would as a railroader.
As Fred Oster pointed out, we really needed to have some memorial for the late Chris Pease, who was one of us and died so tragically. We responded with a circle and a moment od silence, and for Chris he would tell us that was good enough.
Bob encouraged many of us in our group, and indeed, everyone at that table did some railroading in their lives. I heartily agree that we should organize annual get-togethers for our particular fellowship. In our small way we each made our own contribution to historic preservation. Now WE are the "old heads" in the railfan fellowship, though we will still throw an occaisonal hand grenade here and there, when needed!
