Coming up Saturday and Sunday is the annual Safety Weekend at the Sumpter Valley Railroad. This will be a good opportunity to get to know the line, as well as getting the essentials if you intedn to become an active member of the train crew. The schedule is as follows, we hope to see you there!
When: Saturday, May 5 and Sunday, May 6, 2007.
Where: Sumpter Valley Car Shop, McEwen Yard.
Time: 9:00 AM Saturday and Sunday
Agenda: Saturday the focus will be on safety, and a session by Karen Spencer on Customer Relations.
Sunday the focus will be on safely operating equipment such as the Fire Train.
Lunch: Lunch will be provided both days. Beverages will be available throughout the day.
All active members are requested to attend. In order to work or learn to work as a train crew members, attendance is mandatory. Yard safety is important as well, so even if you plan to work on restoration or maintenance, you should attend. Please let me know if you have a schedule conflict for this event. We want to especially welcome newer members. Safety Weekend is the time where we update and review operations, safety and rules. After winter's absence from operations, we all need a refresher course and reminder of the importance of safety. It is an excellent opportunity for new members to met SVRR members and officers and get started learning some basics.
No fire prevention training is scheduled this year, but can be done by special request on Sunday.
Dan Denham, Trainmaster, SVRR
