Never seen views of the monsterous Coal Bunker at Skagway can be seen in 8 photos article in "The Railway Age" magazine of March 15, 1901. The bunker was just north of the round house and was 30" wide, 254' long and had a long trestle ramp of 20 per cent to put cars in the top to unload. Locomotives could be loaded on the sides, or cars loaded undernease center. Also photoed is Hoist and conveyor at the wharf, which loaded cars to transfer to top of bunker. Later as ordered, the type of coal was reloaded for inland shiping. The tall bunker held 4,000 tons.
It must have been another clasic fire on its exit from existance in ? year. Anyone have the date?
