OOOpps! You said Costa Rica. The four engines I referred to in my previous post went to El Salvador in 1950. Numbers were 32, 34, 35 & 36, all were built by ALCO. Included in the sale to El Salvador were 250 freight cars, 70 tons of rail and many tons of other track material.
At least two of these engines were still working as late as 1974.
Do you have engine numbers of the ones you're looking for? The roster in Best's book (p. 182 has no reference to Costa Rica.
