I agree with El Coke on this one. We have a nice segment on this train ride in our "America By Rail-Route of the Southwest Chief". Les shot the segment which included a hi-rail ride ahead of the train and onboard coverage. Quite interesting line, and scenic with vintage units. Also I liked the open and closed cars that were available. If you like the outdoors then you can be in an open car, or if it gets too hot, just move into the air conditioned one and sip a nice beverage. I was really impressed with the stuff we had for this program, and it seemed like a great ride that was "A Sleeper" operation.
We were going to do the Grand Canyon Train in our 1997 production, but they were very upidy at the time, and wanted to see our script, and other unrealistic things like all the raw footage, etc.
Therefore we settled for a helipcoptor ride over the Grand Canyon, and the Verde Canyon Train.
I understand folks at the GC line are a bit more receptive to folks nowadays.
Also in our video(to keep with NG discussion), is our segment on the Cumbres and Toltec scenic Railroad. The Durango and Silverton is in the first program of the 4 that we did(It is The Heartland).
I do recommend the Verde Canyon line strongly from what I saw, and its a nice segment on our video. It even made the secondary image of our cover. See link.
