I imagine most of the members of the Como engine board were busy that day. If Sam Speas' book is correct Charlie Thomas was not one of them as he was identified in a picture taken near the Como roundhouse waiting for the last passenger train to arrive.
Maybe he was on the Alma train. Its last run was around that time.
