I would be interested in more posts like this. I was looking at a seniority list I have. It appears all of the engineers on the trains that day hired on in the early teens and had been promoted to engineer by 1919. That would make all of them definitely "old heads" as they all would have to have been in their 60's in 1957. Also the conductor on the train from Durango was apparently Alva Lyons of Silverton train fame. In the train from Alamosa, the second car in the train is shown as 6579 (generators), which cannot be right since this series of flat cars only went up to 6544. I expect that it probably was either 6529 or 6539. I do have a question. Which tracks were the house track and the team track?
