According to the folio sheet, wt on drivers for a K27 is 108300, for a K28 113,500 - about 2 1/2 tons difference. Total engine wt for K27 140250, K28 156000 - about 8 tons difference. K27 tender 83300, K28 tender 98500 - about 7 1/2 tons.
Total Engine and Tender: K27 223,550, K28 254500 difference of about 15 tons.
A K28 is a much longer engine: Driving wheelbase: K27 11'5". K28 12'3" (same as K36-37) - 10" difference, Total wheelbase of locomotive: K27 24'6", K28 28'10" - 4'6" difference.
For a railroad that was a bad as the RGS that on a good day could barely hold up a K27, the added wieght of a K28 combined with the extra lateral forces on the curves from created by a longer wheelbase, could spell a real mess.
