Interesting that the blow off cock was broken off by the snow on the #479. This was a major problem with the K-28's. That was the specific reason that the D&RGW used to justify the overhaul of the #463 in 1949 and fit it with a large plow for use on the Silverton branch. It had inside cylinder cocks as opposed to the K-28's which were mounted on the outside.
