Amtrak does what it can with it's limited amount of money and seems to get little support from some of the carriers upper management. Believe it or not, some of the dispatchers that I have talked to down here in Texas do everything that they can possibly do to get Amtrak over the road with top priority and really do appreciate it when someone notices. The real problem is simply too much freight traffic, and the fact that as soon as you introduce a faster schedule into the mix, everything goes haywire. My experiences with Amtrak and UP down here in Texas have been interesting to say the least, but I do want to say that the worst ones have been the fault of Amtrak and the inability of local management to make decisions on the local level, because there is no money, so all decisions have to be sent way upstairs before a $$ can be spent, where as, I have seen UP treat the Texas Eagle like the absolute top priority train on the line, to at least do the best that it can to make up time and arrive at major destinations on time.
