There's a story told about one of the 1947 excursions on the RGS where Ward Kimball, of Disney, Grizzly Flats and Firehouse Five fame, lost his wallet out of his back pocket while sitting on the side of the high side gondola they were using for an "excursion" car. The RGS spared no expense! Anyway they stopped the train and all hands bailed off and searched in the weeds until they found the errant purse.
It was a different world back then. Last time I rode the Silverton they left their brakeman behind at the Needleton water stop (it's called "wait for the signal!") and they didn't even go back for HIM! He had to catch a ride on the speeder till they caught up at Rockwood!
