It is an operating museum, operated by it's members. Members receive no monetary benefits and cannot sell their membership.

It is not state/county/city or federally owned. SVRy does receive some grants from state and federal agencies.
SVRy is an operating steam railroad museum incorporated under the state of Oregon non-profit statutes. Members pay annual dues or pay for lifetime membership in order to participate in the operation and restoration. SVRy has a few staff employees, some of whom are also volunteers.
