Bill and All...
Spike the Rogers switcher is owned by the Friends, not the C&TS. As far as I know, it is to be transported to, and used in and around, the new Friends Car Repair Facility in Antonito. It is said to be able to move up to three freight cars.
Last I saw, the switcher is still buried in a string of cars on the oil rack track in Chama, accumulating damage.
Spike is easy to start and use--put in the battery, check the gas level, get the key, start it, get up some brake air, and go.
A drawback of Spike is its narrowness--it's tough to see around a boxcar being pushed without hanging way out the cab window.
But I think it sure would beat using a pickup to move cars around the CRF.
