Although to add to the confusion before the '24 renumbering both the future C-19's (400-411 built 1881) and c-17's (417-422 built 1887) were all listed as Class 70 engines. (c-16's were class 60) And for a final piece of confusion D&RG put two odd engines (built 3' ga, rebuilt to std ga before 1904, narrow ga again in 1918, class 77) that had come from RGW (RGW 1 & 13, D&RG (1908) 554 & 555) into class c-17 in '24 as 305 & 306! (Wonder why the former 275 rblt to standard ga as RGW 11, D&rg 553 (290, '24) scrapped 8/24 was never returned to 3' ga?)

Oh and just to add the messed up history of the Class 70 engines, 5 engines (401, 402, 405, 410 & 411) were rblt to std ga switchers (#800-804) 6/88-4/89 then back to 3' ga 7-98-12/00) with different numbers (2nd 405, 401, 410, 411 & 402)

And 5 engines (class 75)that were the same size as class 70, and are rumored to have been originally ordered 3' ga were delivered as the 1st D&RG std ga engines (#412-416, 1881, to 550-554 1887, rblt to 0-8-0T pre-1900, 800-804 1908, most scrapped in '15 last in '27 as #10, class S-19).

Confused yet? So the three Class 70 engines transfered to RGS in '16 were:

#40 prev (in order) D&RG 411, 802 & 402 Quartz Creek
#41 prev D&RG 409 Red Cliff, Red Buttes
Whose litter mates became C-19-70 in '24 (RGS class B-4-70 per Folio #7 5-12-36 reissue)

#42 prev D&RG 420 (nameless)
of the batch that became C-17-70 in '24 (RGS class also B-4-70 in folio #7)

Of course all three are listed as C-19 in RGS timetable #5 of 2/14/43! (which still shows D&RG C-17's even tho the last (#302) was scrapped in '38.)
