Hi Charlie,
you are d..... right. All over the world you could find such places where time has seemd to stopped 40 or 50 years ago (Cuba, AfricaSouth America, Europe, Asia). On my last annual visit in Chama (Sept 2000) I shot some black and white slides. When I framed them ( the oldfashioned way with paper and glass) at home I could hardly tell the difference between some of slides from the 40ies I have too. TH D&S is a pure tourist(or terrorist, because mass turism is terrorism) RR comparable to Disney land and Knott's Berry Farm (ok the landscape is marvellous, but operations are too modern, and the b... beartraps too). For gods sake we still have 5 N G lines with daily regular steam service over here in Germany and most of them were real jewels conserved (this means not enough money for reconstruction) in a mostly timeless way.
Would like to see what happens when the new "RGS" runs from Dolores to "Lost Canyon" . Hope they will catch the spirit.
Steffen
