I believe Sacramento has been overwhelmed by the amount of their unrestored collection, and has been in discussions with various other responsible museums about transferring some items of the ATSF collection (by loan or gift?) so that there is a better chance of preservation and display in the near future.
I had heard that much of the copper was stripped out of the various diesels years ago due to their less than secure storage.
