Advertising and management budgets meet with controversy.

CHAMA, N.M.- Amid criticism and citing the lateness of the season, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad Commission extended Friday its current advertising contract with Circus Inc. of Santa Fe until Sept. 30.
The commission resolved to call for proposals on advertising spending in May or June.
New Mexico commissioner Randy Randall of Santa Fe criticized any advertising expenditure, saygin a great deal of free advertising and marketing of the railroad could be obtained through the states’ tourism offices. No advertising contracts were put out for bid last year or for the 2007 season.
“You can’t afford to bring the world to New Mexico and Colorado to ride this railroad. Let the states do it. You’ll not solve with $500,000 what New Mexico can’t do with $5 million,” Randall said.
