Thanks Skip, another myth blown out the water! I've been on the footplate of a 4 cylinder loco that got centred (I wasn't driving 
" /> ). Had trouble once with one of our locos when it kept slipping - got moving easy enough but could I get it to accelerate? No way - too much ice on the railhead - mind you it was February at the time........
