Les and I were there in 1995 doing a segment for our America By Rail-West Coast Route. We always included one National Park in the show, and this railroad was right there. We show the Model-T Railcars, and the Shay #15. These guys were quite hospitable(Max Stoffer I think was the owner). Les rode the cab of 15, and they set me up on a speed-car trailer to shoot ahead of the shay. I sat on a milk container, with a pillow-like cusion and the tripod ahead of me. Got a few minutes of neat footage, then the speeder car guy blasted ahead, and dropped me off so I could get a nice runby on the grade. They even did a runby for us at the bottom of the grade on their balloon track. Its a pretty neat operation for a short run with the railcars and NG. We even got a bit of snow when we were there.
Is Toulomee(Sp), the town near Jamestown(Sierra Rwy). Is that where the West Side was?
I always heard the name a lot, but was never quite sure where it operated. How many engines did they have?
