Borrowing from your earlier writings, the keeping of the fire must be accomplished in many ways -- operation of the C&TS railroad, restoring rare items relating to American railroading, and keeping the archives of history safe and accessible
Vern,
It should be noted that folks such as yourself and Spencer Wilson have been among those keeping the fire for years. THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION STUDY (C&TS) that the two of you co-authored in 1980 provided a scholarly foundation for the work of the Friends that followed. Your continued collaboration in maintaining the Friends Library is just as critical.
Now that the MOU defines the Commission's role as policy-makers, there is a renewed opportunity to develop a more systematic approach to how the RR as a whole will be interpreted. I hope the Friends can be influential in assisting the Commission in planning how the dual missions of economic development and a living museum imposed by the compact can be better integrated.
I think THE HISTORIC PRESERVATION STUDY might be good to slip into an orientation packet that the Friends and CTSMC could jointly put together for the new Commissioners. They need to be brought up to speed.
